The good news is the Roadmaster is running great. I drove it around on this beautifully warm but not hot afternoon doing a bunch of errands, and the temp gauge never moved of it’s normal 5/16 between C and H (gauge isn’t numbered of course).
This afternoon I noticed a BIG paint bubble at the bottom of the drivers side B-pillar. I poked it with a screw driver, and while it didn’t go all the way through, it’s very very soft. I’m just not willing to put my kids in it with that kind of structural body rust. Looks like the Toadmaster is going to get sold very soon. Balls :(

Damn! That wasn’t a long run at all.

Bahhh, it’s got a full frame. That’s not structural!

Problem. Solved.

It is in a side impact.

I know! I’m going to take it to the el cheap I body shop that fixed my truck years ago and see what they quote me to fix it.

Not when my kid is in the back seat.

I will take it to my favorite el cheapo body shop to see how much they quote me to cut it out and weld some new metal in before I give up.

We can still take it to Rockford, I just don’t want to put the girls in it.

Yeah, you definitely shouldn’t be using my logic to fix the car you use to carry your kids. I’m like 90% sure there’s a surgeon generals warning against that. What will you replace it with?

I have no idea what I’ll get next. It would be fun to have something with a stick shift again. It’s been about a decade since I had one of those.

If you don't mind parting crowds, maybe an old Mustang?

Possimaybe. Just depends what I find in my low price range.

Cut and stitch? One of the best cars on Oppo doesn't deserve to go this way.

I’m going to take it to my favorite cheap body shop and see what they quote me. This is well beyond my skill level and comfort zone.

Half cage?

Kinda kills the back seat then, which is the whole point of choosing this as my fun car.

unless i am mistaken those still had full frames right??? if so, then whats the problem?? its not like the car will break in half.....
![]() 06/22/2016 at 00:23 |
|
FULL frame car....... the frame extends to the OUTER edges of the body.....
![]() 06/22/2016 at 00:27 |

could always use the opportunity to find and rescue a deserving donee truck......

Touché.
But no.
![]() 06/22/2016 at 05:52 |

Yeah, but the body curls way in at the bottom. In a side impact, this hole will weaken it’s ability to protect my kids, because by the time the impact gets to the frame, it’s already almost to the occupants.

A farewell trip, so to speak..

There are ways to do it without making the back seat useless. If you like the car, it’s worth a shot.

I’m going to take it to my favorite el cheapo body shop and see how much it is to cut the cancer out and weld in some new metal. I’ve never intended to keep this car forever, so I’m not willing to go to that kind of expense.
![]() 06/22/2016 at 08:41 |

Basically, unless my favorite el cheapo body shop can cut out the cancer and weld in some new metal for a few hundred bucks or less.

Nooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo
![]() 06/22/2016 at 14:32 |

That was pretty much my exact response. I’m going to get an estimate from my favorite el cheapo body shop and see if they can fix it cheap enough to get approval from “the boss.”
![]() 06/22/2016 at 15:29 |

that hole means nothing......NOTHING to those overbuilt doors....... unless there are SEVERAL more, that are bigger along the bottom, that you didnt tell us about, there isnt anything to be scared over. yeah fixing it now is a great idea, but the car itself isnt going to break half in two, or crumble like an aluminium can.......
![]() 06/22/2016 at 15:34 |

I know the car isn’t going to break in half or anything, I’m just not willing to put my daughter in it. I’m still driving it in the meantime. Hopefully my cheapo body shop can fix it at a price I can stomach. If not, I’ll sell it and buy something else.

your car, your family, your buisness.........................(that having been said)............ you sounded a bit shook (panicked)....... do whatever makes you feel safe/comfortable.
![]() 06/22/2016 at 15:57 |

I was pissed, not panicked :)
![]() 06/22/2016 at 16:03 |

they sound awful close, in black and white.............heres hoping the shop is reasonable with you.......

They do indeed!
I’ll keep y’all posted when I get my estimate.
